Roma Student · Last updated 11 August 2026

Roma Student is a city guide written by students living in Rome. This page explains what the app collects, why it needs it, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read rather than to be legally impressive.

What we collect

WhatWhy
Your university email addressTo confirm you study in Rome. It is the only thing separating this from a public review site.
Your name and, if you add one, a photoShown on the places and reviews you contribute, and to people you add as friends.
Optional profile details — age, gender, country, year of study, bio, Instagram handleShown on your profile. All optional, and you choose whether your Instagram is visible to everyone or only to friends.
What you write — reviews, posts, messages, events you createTo show it to the people it is meant for.
Places you save and events you joinTo show them back to you, and to show attendance counts to others.
Approximate location, only while the app is open and only if you allow itTo sort places by distance. It is never stored on our servers and never shared.
A notification token, if you allow notificationsTo send messages about events you joined and friend requests. Removed when you sign out.
We do not collect your contacts, your phone number, or your browsing outside this app. There is no advertising and no third-party analytics tracking you across other services.

Where it lives

Everything is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication and Storage), on servers in the European Union. Firebase processes this data on our behalf under Google's own terms. Nobody else receives it.

Who can see what

Blocking and reporting

You can block any user, which hides their content from you and yours from them, in both directions. You can report any place, review, post, message or person from the interface. Reports go to a queue only we can read, and we act on them.

Deleting your account

In the app: You → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, your photo, your saved places, your friendships and your messages. It cannot be undone, and we do not keep a copy.

Reviews and places you contributed may remain, since other people rely on them, but they are detached from your account. If you want those removed as well, email us and we will do it.

Under 18

Roma Student is for university students and is not intended for anyone under 16. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will say so in the app rather than quietly updating this page.
